So You Want To Begin A Movie

The music, the night photography in Scope, the cool gangster overcoats and hats, and all those guns that never need loading. In two minutes I'm completely hooked. The title "Go To Hell Bastards" doesn't hurt either. The French and Japanese absolutely own cool gangsters. Originally released in 1963 by Nikkatsu Studios, directed by Seijun Suzuki, a dvd has just been re-released from Kino International.

  1. And the music! imdb lists Harumi Ibe for original music. Think that was his? Such an odd, cool choice under that sequence.

  2. Oops. I see you mentioned the music first. Must learn to read more closely.

  3. No kidding, the vibes at very beginning are just so cool and then the cacophony jazz at the Main Title. A mixture of professional film making and just plain fun.
